Extension Efforts
IPM - Noel’s primary Extension emphasis is promoting the application of integrated pest management (IPM) by producers to manage arthropod/insect pests of crops and livestock in Southwest Texas. He also evaluates insecticides for efficacy against the various pests of fruit, nut, vegetable and row crops.
Youth - Noel devotes some of his time to youth programs such as 4-H Entomology and FFA Entomology.
Research Efforts
Much of Noel’s research time is spent working in conjunction with Dr. Mark Black, Extension Plant Pathologist - Uvalde, to develop a better understanding of the role of the host plant/insect vector relationship between thrips and tomato spotted wilt virus in peanut. He has an interest in the science of acarology and devotes some of his time to learning more about mites and the use of predatory mites to control pest mites in pecan orchards. Additionally, Noel is involved in research trying to determine the effects of thrips, cotton fleahoppers and whiteflies on cotton yields.
