Walker County Master Gardeners have been involved in a number of activities during the past two years. Some selected events and projects have included:
Educational Displays - Informative displays developed by the Walker Co. Master Gardeners include: Wildflowers, Butterfly Gardening, Africanized Bee Awareness, Tree Planting.
Demonstration Projects - The "hands-on" projects undertaken by the Master Gardeners have included: Rainwater Harvesting, Handicap Accessible Gardening, Butterfly Gardening, Herb Gardening, Vegetable Gardening, Raised Bed Gardening, Composting.
Community Involvement - Volunteers are involved in a number of community projects, a sampling includes the Cabin on the Square, and Keep Huntsville Beautiful. Planning includes action at the New Waverly Public Library as building progresses.
Community Educational Programs - Master Gardeners have developed and provided leadership to programs for the general public on; Fruit & Nut Grafting, Africanized Bees, Tropical Plants, and Herb Production.
Youth Programs - Master Gardeners have been instrumental in promoting the Junior Master Gardener program to local schools. Our volunteers are working with JMG groups and providing leadership to these youth development programs.
Speaking Presentations - Members of the Walker Co. Master Gardeners have presented a variety of information to community groups. These presentations have included; Poison Ivy Education, General Home Gardening, Youth Gardening, Utilizing Herbs, Soap Making, and Plant Propagation.
