The BUZZ in the Garden

Sponsored by Rockwell Collins and Texas AgriLife Extension Service

This garden project was funded by Rockwell Collins through their Green Communities Grant Program. Our Extension Horticulturist, Melissa Clifton Sturdivant working with another local designer, Scott Warren, designed a butterfly garden habitat to compliment the planned development of a butterfly hatchery at the Abilene Zoological Gardens. Ms. Sturdivant submitted the proposal to Rockwell Collins and the grant was awarded. Only sixteen grants were awarded in 2006 with two of these being international grants and only two other grants were awarded across the state of Texas in 2006. Volunteers with the Big Country Master Gardeners and employees of Rockwell Collins assisted in the installation of this butterfly garden habitat.
