2010 County Fair Register your photographs on Wednesday, February 24, 2009, from 4pm-6pm at the Jaycee Hall. Only entries of single photographs will be accepted (no collages). Pictures may be taken with any camera. Entries must be mounted on photographic mount board, thin foam board, or commercial mat. All photos must be 8"x10" (excluding mat if used). Use of frames or glass is prohibited. Class is determined by focal point of picture. Only five entries per division (photography is a division) and only one entry will be accepted per class.

Rules and Guidelines
1 . Participation Age The County 4-H Photography Contest is open to all Junior and Intermediate 4-H members. Intermediate participants must be 11-13 years of age as of August 31, 2009; Junior participants must be 8 and in the 3rd grade to age 10, as of August 31, 2009. Senior 4-H members participating in the Texas 4-H Photography Display at Texas 4-H Roundup should refer to the 2010 Texas 4-H Photography Contest Rules and Guidelines found at the 4-H website indicated above.
2. Eligibility of Photos All photographs must have been taken by 4-H members between the dates of January 1, 2009, and the time of entry.
3. Number of Entries A participant may have only one entry per category. All entries must be submitted to the local county Extension Office by Friday, March 5, 2010, along with the photo release form.
4. Contestants’ Participation Photography display participants are not to be present for judging.
5. Size of Photographs Each photograph must be 8 inches by 10 inches in dimension. All prints must be permanently mounted solid on PHOTOGRAPHIC MOUNT BOARD (mat board material) or a THIN FOAM BOARD no larger than 8 inches by 10 inches suitable for hanging without an additional frame. Masonite, photo folders, corrugated cardboard or thin poster board is not acceptable. Double faced tape, glue or rubber cement is not allowed for mounting purposes. (Use dry mounting if possible.) Matting (of any kind) is not allowed and will result in disqualification.
6. Disqualification of Entries Entries that do not follow the rules, division and class guidelines or any general guidelines will automatically be disqualified. Entries received past the deadline will be automatically disqualified and will be returned to the participant. Reasons for disqualification: a. Incorrect size. b. Mounted improperly. c. Labeled improperly or label incomplete. d. Entered into incorrect division and/or class. e. Same photo entered into multiple divisions and/or classes. f. No signature(s).

People (babies, children, adults, and senior citizens) alone or in a group, active or inactive. Such photos may be photojournalistic, or an interpretative portrait where the person rather than the environment is emphasized.
Animals

Animal life, including domestic, wild, insects, and underwater creatures. The animal(s) should be the focus of the photo and not human subjects or nature/scenic. No harm or injury should be inflicted on the animal in order to acquire the photo.
Still Life

Photography where objects are pre-arranged or set up by the photographer (composition does not occur naturally).
Natural Landscape
(1) Color

Scenes of natural landscapes, seascapes, skyscapes (sunsets, clouds, etc) or underwater scenes.
Plant/Flora

Any photo that focuses on the plant or flower structure and not on a scene or landscape.
Architectural Elements

Photos that emphasize geometric details such as lines, patterns, textures of inanimate objects.
Special Effects/ Creative Effects

Any photo that has been enhanced to bring out dramatic or artistic qualities; these enhancements can occur using the camera or developing process. Antiquing, hand-tinting, and sepia-tone photos would be entered in this division. Special Effects/Creative Effects does not include the simple conversion of a color photo to black and white.
Theme - Seasons of 4-H

The theme category will have a different focus each year. For 2009 the theme will be VOLUNTEERS IN ACTION. Volunteers, youth and adults, play an important role in our society. 4-H members are encouraged to take photographs of volunteers in action. Photos can include 4-H volunteers, but also volunteers serving in action roles through other organizations such as Habitat for Humanity, etc.
