4-H Outstanding Leader Recognition

Outstanding Junior and Outstanding Teen Leaders
Junior Leaders are 4-H members that should be at least 13 years of age as of August 31 of the current 4-H year and have three (3) years of 4-H experience.  The junior leader works as an assistant to and under the supervision of an adult or teen leader.  The 4-H Club Manager Guide Manual outlines the many different types of responsibilities that a junior leader can assume.

Teen Leaders are 4-H members that should be at least 14 years of age as of August 31 of the current 4-H year and/or a freshman in high school.  They should be able to accept full responsibility for a 4-H club, project group, short-term group, or special activity.  They must have served as an active junior leader one (1) year immediately prior and have three (3) years of 4-H experience.  It is recommended that junior and teen leaders work with younger 4-Hers, in the range of third grade to 12 years of age.
  1. Each club may nominate one (1) outstanding junior leader and one (1) outstanding teen leader.  A written application for the award must be completed and signed by the nominee.  The club manager will sign and submit the application to the Extension Office by July 1 unless advised otherwise by the Awards and Recognition Committee.  NO EXCEPTIONS.
  2. The Awards and Recognition Committee will review the nominees and select four (4) outstanding junior leader finalists and four (4) outstanding teen leader finalists.  Finalists will be based on the following criteria:
    • Leadership participation in 4-H and other activities
    • What 4-H members have gained as a result of this leader's work
    • How the leader has contributed to the success of the local 4-H club with which he/she has worked and the county program.
  3. The Fort Bend 4-H Parent Leaders will select two (2) outstanding junior leaders and two (2) outstanding teen leaders from the finalists during their meeting immediately prior to the Annual Awards Banquet.  Voting will be by written ballot.  The results will be secret and announced at the Annual Awards Banquet.
  4. The outstanding junior and outstanding teen award can be received only once.
  5. A Gold Clover will be awarded to these recipients (2 juniors and 2 teens) provided by the Fort Bend Parent Leaders.
